My 2008 2.7 has 21,000 on the odometer. I will have the 24K service performed regardless of mileage later this year. I have been advised to have all service performed at the dealer by a local indy that works only on air cooled Porsches, mostly due to the unlikely event of IMS failure. The cost of the service is $750.00 at either of the 2 dealers in the Atlanta area, $400 in Knoxville at the dealer or $250- $300 at local indy shops. To date every service has been performed at the dealer, 2...

DIY Guide to Replacing the Accessories Belt in the 987 Questions/comments: PM or email me: lithium_1330@yahoo.com You can download the PDF here: https://www.box.com/s/32ftofdw935rrizmmfr4 This is a suggestive guide detailing steps one can take to replace the accessories drive belt in the engine bay of the 987 (Boxster/Cayman) cars. It is a relatively simple job that most of us can tackle. For this job, you do not need to put the Boxster top in service position, but opening it up ½ way will...

Just completed the replacement of the OEM battery on SilverBox, a 2008 987. The OEM battery was about 5 1/2 years old and started showing dying signs this past weekend. If you have not done one on your Boxster you should know that the process is easy and straightforward. I selected an ACDelco 94R Profession Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) battery as the replacement. Here are the steps I took: connected a CTEK3300 battery maintainer via the cig lighter. The remaining steps were done while...

Brakes 201: Brake Fluid Flush / Brake Bleeding Introduction Bleeding your brakes or flushing (changing) the brake fluid is not a difficult DIY maintenance task. Both jobs can be done with simple, basic tools you probably already have on hand. Bleeding your brakes involves the removal of small amounts of brake fluid to remove any air bubbles which may be in the line. Flushing involves replacing the brake fluid in the entire brake system. Until you do this the first time, this...

Cleaning and Protecting Your Engine I decided to clean my engine to make it easier to inspect and to perhaps maximize cooling. I discussed this idea with my independent tech and he agreed it would help visual inspection and also said it is a good idea to annually put a protectant on the rubber surfaces as this would help prevent degradation and cracking. He recommended the Duragloss ultimate spray for this. Note: I did not find this product at the first couple of auto parts stores so I went...

Some of the newer cars have LED lights inside and out. With a couple of exceptions (door pull handle and ambient light), our 987's come with the yellow-ish incandescent bulbs (invented in mid-19 century - that's in the 1800's :hmm:) inside and out. While functional, the tar-yellow color and temperature (hot) really dates the look of our cars. I recently converted all the interior, frunk/trunk, license plate lights with high tech LED's - the LED's are just as bright, but gives a modern ...

For those of you with a Boxster Spyder, the weather apron that encloses the back of the cabin is attached to a metal stress hoop with plastic clips. If you are not careful, there is the possibility of these clips being broken when rolling the window up, if you have misaligned the top hoop to the roll bar. My first thought when this happened to me was, "wow this is going to cost a fortune to replace that entire apron!". As I inspected the clips, I realized that they were attached with...
