Why the grille badges? Here's the backstory.
I know this might not be everyone's cup a tea, but I grew up a Porsche PCA kid since 1970 (LPR, GGR), my parents dragged us to autocrossing and club events on the weekends and we'd still be in our Little League baseball outfits. Back then, grille badges on the back of a 911 were the norm. Proudly show you're a PCA member and what region you're in was all the rage. I guess this still holds true today, but modernized with different clubs; the R...

I recently completed the installation of an aftermarket back-up camera for my 2010 987.2 Boxster. A quick recap follows for those just want to see the highlights and then a more detailed description follows. Disclaimer: I am not an automotive or electronics professional, nor have I completed any advanced training in these areas, so while the following installation approach has been successful in my case, I cannot provide any assurance that this approach is optimal nor that the outcome will...

On my previous 986 I added the Porsche short shift kit. It was a huge improvement over the factory standard unit so after having bought a 981 GTS I figured the same must be true for it. And having seen Guenter in Ontario's commentary on the short shifter he had installed in his 981S, the bug bit me, done, I’m so doing this!
I found some helpful information around the internet but nothing as involved as a full set of instructions with pictures and commentary on how to replace your 981...

Many of our early 986 Boxsters have the original 12 volt accessory (cigarette lighter) plug and some of the new electronic devices’ plugs do not fit tightly in them. My new GPS is one of those devices and it finds a way to fall out of the socket, sending my GPS into a question frenzy of whether or not I want to run it off battery or plug, and freezing the screen at a crucial freeway change or off ramp.

A tool of your choice to pry the switch housing from the climate...

The primary joy of owning a Boxster is cruising through the countryside on a beautiful day with the top down.
One of the factory options that makes that "topless" experience even better, is the Wind Deflector (Option 551) which is mounted to the Boxster's roll bar. The wind deflector reduces the amount of air turbulence and wind noise in the cockpit, allowing the driver and passenger a more pleasant open top driving experience.
Most Boxster's have the wind deflector option. But a few of...

My 2010 Boxster only had a single 12 volt accessory outlet and it was always powered. I started using a dashcam in the spring and it didn't take me long to grow tired of plugging it in every time I started a drive and unplugging it every time I stopped driving. Furthermore, when I went on a trip I had to use a 12 volt splitter to power the navigation unit when I was also using the dashcam. So I decided to add an additional 12 volt outlet and thought it would be a good idea to get one with...

I changed my Boxster spoiler to a black Cayman version and I thought the silver "Boxster" emblem didn't pop enough. A new, black emblem is around $100 and I'm not saying I'm cheap but I find it hard to pay that much for a piece of plastic. I found another way to change the color without even removing the emblem from the car. They have all sorts of colors. I made sure the car was clean and used a q-tip to clean around the lettering.
I used Rustoleum's Flexidip but Plastidip is also another...
