The primary joy of owning a Boxster is cruising through the countryside on a beautiful day with the top down. One of the factory options that makes that "topless" experience even better, is the Wind Deflector (Option 551) which is mounted to the Boxster's roll bar. The wind deflector reduces the amount of air turbulence and wind noise in the cockpit, allowing the driver and passenger a more pleasant open top driving experience. Most Boxster's have the wind deflector option. But a few of...

I have suspected that my battery was on it's "last legs" when I purchased my '01 Boxster back in January. The battery that was in the car when I purchased it was an Interstate MTP-48/H6. This model battery is the same one recommended on Interstate's website. Interstate batteries normally have a sticker that shows the month and year the battery was installed; my battery did not have that sticker so I did not know it's age. The original battery would not hold a charge very well; I was...

I want to share a recent project I did to my Boxster. My '01 Boxster has the stock 16" wheels and OE size tires. Relative to the optional 17" and 18" wheels that are available, my wheel/tire combination looks small when mounted on the car. Think "go cart"! ;) My goal was to improve the appearance and stance of the car without having to modify my recently upgraded suspension or 4-wheel alignment. The logical choice would be to buy a used set of larger wheels. Of course, if the new wheels...

My 2010 Boxster only had a single 12 volt accessory outlet and it was always powered. I started using a dashcam in the spring and it didn't take me long to grow tired of plugging it in every time I started a drive and unplugging it every time I stopped driving. Furthermore, when I went on a trip I had to use a 12 volt splitter to power the navigation unit when I was also using the dashcam. So I decided to add an additional 12 volt outlet and thought it would be a good idea to get one with...

I changed my Boxster spoiler to a black Cayman version and I thought the silver "Boxster" emblem didn't pop enough. A new, black emblem is around $100 and I'm not saying I'm cheap but I find it hard to pay that much for a piece of plastic. I found another way to change the color without even removing the emblem from the car. They have all sorts of colors. I made sure the car was clean and used a q-tip to clean around the lettering. I used Rustoleum's Flexidip but Plastidip is also another...

Continued from PART 1: Removing the calipers is next up. Make sure you have your coat hanger handy. Using a 10mm hex head socket, remove the two caliper bolts. Mine came out with out any fuss. When you are taking out the last bolt, support the caliper in one hand as you remove the last caliper bolt. This is to prevent undo stress on the brake line running to the caliper. Now take the coat hanger and bend it to support the caliper. I looped the coat hanger through the opening in the caliper...

We all know how well our cars perform both on the street and on the track. One of the key attributes of any Porsche is it's excellent braking system. Our brake systems need periodic maintenance, just like our engines, suspension, etc. Some of the maintenance items are spelled out in your cars' Maintenance Booklet. My 2001 Boxster Maintenance booklet says to perform a "Visual inspection of the brake pads and brake discs for signs of wear" at every Major Maintenance (every 30k miles). ...

I know, 987s Rear Main Seals don't leak like the early 986 seals did... Yet I found myself replacing mine. I did so because I had removed my flywheel to fix a leaking IMS cover. Since I was right there with almost all of the labor already done, it just seemed like spending another $18 to freshen up my Rear Main Seal on my 80,000 mile engine was the sensible thing to do. The job wasn't terribly difficult, but it did require a special tool and some real care. If you'd like to review the...
