Sometimes it is necessary to remove the seats for cleaning, repair, or to access the Central Locking Unit (CLU) of your 986. It's a simple job, but I thought it be helpful to document. Step one is to disconnect the NEGATIVE terminal of your battery. This step will help you avoid throwing the airbag light, which can only be reset with the dealer/indie computer or a Durametric device. Ask me how I know this.... Note: it is easier to remove the seats with the top down, so lower the top...

A month or so ago, I did an article on preforming a oil and filter change on a Boxster. I accidentally omitted from that article a DIY tip on how to remove the oil filter canister using a oil filter canister removal tool. Changing the oil and filter on a 986 or 987 are very similar processes. One of the tools you should use is a Oil Filter Canister Removal Tool that snaps onto a 3/8" ratchet. The filter canisters on both the 986 and 987 use the same size removal tool. Sometimes the...

One of the topics we hear talked about a lot is engine oil. What is a good oil for my Boxster, what weight oil should I use, how often should I change my oil...these are all common questions we see discussed again and again. The purpose of my article is not to open another debate on these important topics, but to share with you what I do based on my "real-world" experiences with Porsche cars. Oil in the old air-cooled Porsches was critical, and to a large extent is still critical to the...

No part of this document may be reproduced without written consent from the author The battery in our cars is one of the items that many owners neglect until it's to late. One of the most feared sounds from our cars is the "sound of silence" when we turn the key. :frown: Our Boxster's battery has a finite life and will need replacing eventually. I have typically gotten 7-8 years of life on my 911 batteries. ...
