A month or so ago, I did an article on preforming a oil and filter change on a Boxster. I accidentally omitted from that article a DIY tip on how to remove the oil filter canister using a oil filter canister removal tool.
Changing the oil and filter on a 986 or 987 are very similar processes. One of the tools you should use is a Oil Filter Canister Removal Tool that snaps onto a 3/8" ratchet. The filter canisters on both the 986 and 987 use the same size removal tool.

I have suspected that my battery was on it's "last legs" when I purchased my '01 Boxster back in January. The battery that was in the car when I purchased it was an Interstate MTP-48/H6. This model battery is the same one recommended on Interstate's website. Interstate batteries normally have a sticker that shows the month and year the battery was installed; my battery did not have that sticker so I did not know it's age.

I want to share a recent project I did to my Boxster. My '01 Boxster has the stock 16" wheels and OE size tires. Relative to the optional 17" and 18" wheels that are available, my wheel/tire combination looks small when mounted on the car. Think "go cart"! ;)
My goal was to improve the appearance and stance of the car without having to modify my recently upgraded suspension or 4-wheel alignment. The logical choice would be to buy a used set of larger wheels. Of course, if the new wheels...

Removing the calipers is next up. Make sure you have your coat hanger handy. Using a 10mm hex head socket, remove the two caliper bolts. Mine came out with out any fuss. When you are taking out the last bolt, support the caliper in one hand as you remove the last caliper bolt. This is to prevent undo stress on the brake line running to the caliper. We all know how well our cars perform both on the street and on the track. One of the key attributes of any Porsche is it's excellent braking system.
Our brake systems need periodic maintenance, just like our engines, suspension, etc. Some of the maintenance items are spelled out in your cars' Maintenance Booklet. My 2001 Boxster Maintenance booklet says to perform a "Visual inspection of the brake pads and brake discs for signs of wear" at every Major Maintenance (every 30k miles).
