Here are the details. The exact author is unknown however it appears not to be copyrighted.
The AC Climatronic unit is actually manufactured by Audi. There is some sort of serial data stream or CAN interface that allows the AC unit to display engine parameters. This works on 97-00 Boxsters. Here is a list of what can be seen:
To switch from F to C:
Hold down the recirculating button then push both the temperature + - buttons.
To access diagnostics:

Here's how to do it and what is needed:
Two Torx screwdrivers, and a ruler (either inch or metric).
- Remove the driver's side sun visor. Unclip the the small cover to the right of the visor and remove one Torx screw.
- Remove the two Torx screws on the left.
- Pull gently on the side trim piece from the top and stop about a 45 degree angle. The bottom of the trim piece is held in by a clip.
- Push the clip towards the left a little bit while pulling up gently on the trim piece....
