Brakes 201: Brake Fluid Flush / Brake Bleeding
Introduction
Bleeding your brakes or flushing (changing) the brake fluid is not a difficult DIY maintenance task. Both jobs can be done with simple, basic tools you probably already have on hand.
Bleeding your brakes involves the removal of small amounts of brake fluid to remove any air bubbles which may be in the line. Flushing involves replacing the brake fluid in the entire brake system.
Until you do this the first time, this...

Cleaning and Protecting Your Engine
I decided to clean my engine to make it easier to inspect and to perhaps maximize cooling. I discussed this idea with my independent tech and he agreed it would help visual inspection and also said it is a good idea to annually put a protectant on the rubber surfaces as this would help prevent degradation and cracking. He recommended the Duragloss ultimate spray for this. Note: I did not find this product at the first couple of auto parts stores so I went...

During March of 2011 I did a complete brake rebuild on all four corners. This entailed replacing rotors, brake lines, brake pads, and rebuilding the internal parts of each caliper (pistons, dust seals, and inner seals). Plan on using the regular jacking points for your jack stand placement. There are other good places to jack the car with so your stands...

Installing Headlight Protective Film
If you take your car to the track then you may be interested in protecting your headlights from the grit, rubber marbles, and misc bits which can be thrown up by the cars in front of you. No doubt you have seen cars with blue painter's tape on the headlights. I personally went this route for a while before deciding to put clear protective film on the headlights. This saves time at the track and makes for better pictures of your car! (I also think if you...

How to Adjust the Closed Window Height
Overview:
The door windows drop down when you lift the door handle and automatically go backup once the door closes. This is done to relieve the cabin pressure and to make it easier to open and close the door.
I recently had problems with my closed window height being too high and catching on the roof. I learned that there is a height adjustment screw at the front and the rear of the door which allows you to adjust the window height. I'll...

This article by Gator Bite has an excellent write up on how to shorten and disable your brake sensors so you do not have to remove them each time you do brake pad maintenance.
I did not want to cut and ruin my perfectly good sensors so I simply removed them and used zip ties to tie them securely to the brake line. ( I have my eye out for sensors which have been cut by worn pads and when I find them I will go the route Gator Bite describes just to eliminate the potential of a longer sensor...
